We Are What We Are is one of those movies that uses general unpleasantness to disguise its messy, unfocused story as a legitimate social commentary. Don't get me wrong, it has some things going for it--gorgeous cinematography, impressive acting, and a very interesting core concept, even if said concept ends up being totally squandered and buried under pointless subplots.
