Review of We Are Family (2012) by Niraj V — 08 Sep 2010
The usual Dharma Productions movie with lots of emotion, dying parents and perfect wardrobes for all!!!!
Having copied it from Stepmom, there was little that could go horribly wrong with this one so its a safe one time watch.
Director Siddarth Malhotra's debut is a copy of an english movie, not sure how much of a confidence booster that can be for the debutant, but thats the way things work around here, I guess!
The performances are as good as you would expect from Kajol, and Kareena is not bad either, but the movie really belongs to Kajol, proving once again, that she is one of the best talnts we have in the industry.
The 3 kids are unusually normal, not displaying any of the precociousness that is associated with kids in a film with such a delicate issue.
Arjun Rampal was also there in the movie. He needs a razor more than Kajol needed chemotherapy! The final scene makes you really wonder what the styling dept and the director were thinking when they designed Rampal's look for that one!!
Finally, the most light hearted moment of the movie is also the most irreverent. The song based on Elvis's Jailhouse Rock! Its well done n screen and well picturised etc, but you do have to think as tho why the hell can't they leave the classics alone!!!
Anyways, watch it once, carry tissues if you're the weepy sort.
