Review of W.E. (2011) by I Don't Know W — 23 Oct 2011
Saw this last night at the UK premiere... the film exceeded my expectations.
It is not a conventional film - in many ways: the story which challenges generally accepted view of Wallis Simpson's reputation in history, the plot structure which weave in two time periods and two sets of characters, the cinematography which achieves the similar effect in the variation of technicalities.
It is breathtakingly beautiful and the score to this film is outstanding. It is a character on its own and the soaringly epic music works well into the scenes.
The film's dark emotional moments work well and there are also moments of laugh out loud scenes which sweetly punctuate the overall theme.
I felt a lot towards the modern day lead (Wally Wintthrop 1998 New York) which was played well by Abbie Cornish.
Andrea Riseborough was amazing as well.
In fact I enjoyed the film tremendously.
