Review of Watership Down (1978) by Chevy C — 01 Apr 2012
I've seen Toy Story 3, I've seen Up, and I've seen Beauty and the Beast, and yet I have never seen an animated movie as beautiful, as suspenseful and as incredibly breathtaking as Watership Down.
I don't know if it's the incredibly colorful characters and gorgeous scenery for an animated film from the 70s or the incredible reality check this movie has. From the very suspenseful moments of violence and gore to the impressive plot and climax, Watership Down is an incredible story of survival and adventure that truly captures true emotion and bravery through the eyes of the two rabbit brothers in this movie.
But what I really loved most about this movie, apart from Art Garfunkel's beautiful song in the movie, is that this movie truly captures the meaning of life. I have never seen an animated movie (or pretty much any movie) that captures the meaning of life like this movie does.
I laughed a little, I cried a lot, and at the end of the movie, when Hazel leaves his body behind and passes on and you can see his soul hopping around with God, I felt so happy and joyful that I cheered before the credits could roll.
Watership Down has become one of my favorite movies of all time and it makes me sad knowing that this movie didn't get as much recognition as I believe it deserves. In other words, Watership Down is the first animated epic ever made.
No more, no less. That's all I have to say about that!
