The hipster's, stoner's, UCDavis's, and pseudo-intellectual's (as well as a narrow group of genuine intellectual's) favorite, "Waking Life" is by no means a cohesive film and is an epitome of pretentiousness just by its existence. I guess it's not only entertaining if you're high as a kite but also very practical if you decide to find out exactly what the hell you're missing out on in your college's philosophy course. Not much, apparently. However, considering the film's subject matter and the niche topics it decides to tackle, the great irony is that the very nihilists it tries to condemn, "all theory and no action," may as well be the creators of "Waking Life." Linklater overjoys in bombarding us with his monotonous sweeping generalizations.

Despite EVERYTHING I just said, it's still a film that's a masterpiece in its own right... or something like that. I didn't hate it.
