Review of Wake Up Sid (2009) by Syarifah A — 17 Oct 2009
I finally got to see this one. The problem of watching a movie late is that you go with a huge baggage of expectation and inhibition rooting from the strong reviews in TOI, Masand, Friends or whoever.
Now for some strange reason all acquaintances of my age have loved the movie and all the younger baccas have given this a thumbs down. I think the kids got this impression that the movie is "Janu tu ya jane na" type teeny flick. The movie however is a mature romantic film with fare bit of emotions. To cut it short, Sid style, I would say it was a well made movie by Ayan. It had its moments. The emotions felt were real and raw. The complex love between Ranbir and Konkona was shown with perfection.
The movie however was not flawless. It is slow right after interval and ends up in bit of cheesy note. Ignoring all this I think it is an excellent film and must watch, specially for young men who would identify with the sloppy, lazy and child-like Sid and even women who have seen and transformed these BoyZ II Men.
