Review of Wait Until Dark (1967) by Jacob B — 18 Mar 2008
This is difficult. As a filmmaker, I appreciate how Young was able to keep the audience interested with the action and dialogue onscreen with lengthy shots. However, when it comes to watching "classic movie stars" from this period and before, I have such a difficult time NOT rolling my eyes.
Alda was great, but Hepburn... I'm sorry, I appreciate her talent, but I'm a massive advocate of modern naturalistic acting. I've been pre-programmed to find her melodramatic cries of terror as laughable.
I'm afraid my age shows on this one. At the end of the day, a Daniel Day-Lewis is going to win out over a Hepburn.
