Review of Wait Until Dark (1967) by Movie K — 21 May 2016
Quite a good thriller with the setting in just one small home most of the time throughout the movie. Efrem Zimbalist Jr. is a photographer who took a doll from a woman at the airport which contain drugs.
The woman is afraid and did so. Efrem bring it home. Audrey Hepburn is his recently blind wife. The upstairs neighbor Julie Herrod is a girl who likes to find her. Richard Crenna and Jack Weston first broke into the home to find it but Alan Arkin the smart one end up control them and make them work together with him.
So they start to pretend and pose as friends, police officers, other people to gain trust of Audrey when Efrem is out of town. Richard is getting impatient when the doll can't be found. Julie took the doll and return it and Audrey call Richard.
She ask Julie to look out for police car but there isn't any like Richard said. Audrey get Julie to see the phone booth and give a 2 ring call to her whenever there's people going in. Now she knows after calling Richard, the signal arrive.
She know she can't trust Richard and any of those characters. Julie manage to walk away to find help. Audrey break all the lights and pour acid in a pot. Alan killed the 2 men and decide to confront Audrey.
He pour gas around waiting to set fire. Audrey seize a chance to splash the acid onto him and break the last light. She make him tap the cane and she go for the chained door. But Alan open the fridge to light up the house.
She take the doll out of the garbage and keep a knife. She stab at him and Alan in his weak state try to kill her too. Audrey can't close the fridge and take out the switch. Efrem, Julie and 2 cops arrive and save Audrey with all the baddies dead.
