Review of Wait Until Dark (1967) by De Maio D — 13 Jul 2007
Truly one of THE CLASSICS. Right up there with any Hitchcock film for suspense and twisty plotline. Now it's well understood that Hepburn is/was an absolute fox, especially in this film (sad that there is so few classics beauties these days), but she brings all the emotional weight in the role too.
She actually practiced being blind in pre-production to get a real feel for the role and its wholly believable which makes you get more involved with her character. I'd somewhat compare this to "Rear Window", but not in any plot sense, just in the style that the suspense is built up and then the way it all comes crashing down in the final few frames.
It's kind of a tough film to track down and I'd bet you wouldn't find it at Best Buy and it'd probably be too much there anyway. Just go on Amazon and buy it. It's like $9.99. Own it!
