Review of W. (2008) by Ben B — 30 Aug 2011
Brolin is strong in the lead, keeping his performance as Bush away from caricature and impersonation for the majority of the film, creating as rounded a presentation of the president as he can with the script.
The rest of the cast are solid throughout too, but again are limited with the largely uninspired writing. It is Stone's direction that is the film's major flaw however; he fails to choose which story he wants to tell, giving the film an unfocused and at times amateurish feel and ultimately rendering it toothless as either political comment or dramatic interpretation.
Flawed, but worth a watch.
