Review of W. (2008) by Nathan P — 06 Jul 2012
"You disappoint me, Junior.".
As George Senior says again and again in the movie, even though this movie is well-thought and brilliantly-played by its cast; even 4 years later it is still hugely depressing for two significant reasons.
1. To realize how easily the entire massive machinery of state and government can be subverted and put to wrong ends- vis a vis the war in Iraq. The end rarely justifies the means.
2. That this movie makes George W. Bush into far less capable a fanatic or redneck than he has always appeared in public.. more like an average joe who rode the family coattails too far for his own good, and when ultimately faced with being judged on his own, simply doesn't measure up. This makes the years 2000-2008 a lot more bitter a pill to swallow I think.
