Review of Videodrome (1983) by Roy C — 13 Feb 2010
A film unlike any other; Videodrome is perfect sci-fi and horror marriage incarnate while I would also add unclassifiable. The political and sociological commentary is certainly relevant today considering the mass media and constant stimulation one is exposed to.
Many films today miss that philosophical contemplation on voyeurism and sexual brutality as more than mere ends to themselves. The political suggestions and hints of hegemony leaking through an underground industry like sadomasochistic porn provides the film its multi-facetical personage that in turn earns its unquestionable reputation as a great film beyond just the horror and sci-fi vault.
