Review of Videodrome (1983) by Private U — 09 Oct 2008
The first 45 minutes are very intriguing, but when the film shifts from being a focused attack on violence and sex in the media, tv addiction, and sadomasochism to a disjointed DEFENSE of all of the above, it had lost me.
..while some may characterize the film as nuanced and "balanced" in its viewpoint, its change in point of view midway seemed absurd and narratively sloppy. I loved the fleshy tvs and distinctly cronenbergian imagery as well as the general subject matter of the film- even though it all reminded me of how cronenberg blatantly copied his own work in existenz, fleshy guns and all.
