Review of Videodrome (1983) by Doug D — 15 May 2010
This wasn't quite as outstanding as I expected, but it's still an odd and intriguing movie that gets more than a few brain cells working. The societal commentary is unflinching and true, although this movie doesn't have a subtle bone in its body. The one thing that I really disliked about this movie is the audio, which is strange since some of the sound effects are out of this world. The audio (the dialogue editing in particular) is really choppy and sloppily put together- don't even get me started on those gunshots. Those problems only pop up every once in a while, but I sort of cringed every time it happened.
After my first viewing, my verdict on Videodrome is that it is an above average, very important film that can be a little frustrating at times. Still, I'd call it an essential viewing experience.
