Review of Video Games: The Movie (2014) by Gregory B — 04 Nov 2014
A great love letter to the gaming culture. While I knew many of the statistics and history of gaming, I know not every single person who's ever picked up a controller knows these things. It was nice to see an effort to inform the uninitiated.
This is Video Games 101 and there's nothing wrong with that. That's kind of what many documentaries are. For people who have grown up in the 80's and 90's this will give you some heavy nostalgia.
Especially if you work in the industry. You get kind of proud to see how games went from unrecognizable cubes to walking, talking, emoting characters. It's amazing to see how characters like Pacman and Mario are still popular today to a new generation.
If you aren't into games it may give you a small window to what gamers love about video games and how it went from something that people were shunned for enjoying to being one of the biggest money makers in the world of media.
