Review of Veronica Mars (2014) by Shawn H — 16 Mar 2014
What a warm feeling in a mainstream cinema, one I typically only get in the arthouses: that everyone present gets every joke, that every character is playing to an audience who knows and understands them fully.
It's also twisty in sort of the reverse way of many films based on earlier properties: this isn't really about opening up the possibilities and heading off into the unknown. The unknown is the years that have passed between the show's demise and the movie's gestation.
Instead, this is about coming back and reinvesting in the past, salvaging what mattered about it, learning from what went wrong. Or not. Maybe, as Veronica says more than once, it's just an addiction.
One I'm happy to still have, one that was satisfied tonight.
