Review of Veronica Mars (2014) by Bill M — 26 Sep 2015
In all fairness this cinematic conclusion to the tv series Veronica Mars (which fans thought they'd never get) doesn't work as a standalone film at all, but as a piece of fan service, it's just lovely.
Coming a full seven years after the series was cancelled, it's like a warm reunion for cast and fans alike, sometimes feeling like a whole season crammed into a movie, it doesn't always satisfy and can by frustratingly unfocused.
Some characters are given far too short shrift ( "poor Pizz") and the second of the two mystery's involving corruption in the Neptune police force (featuring Jerry O'Connell as basically a reboot of the character "chief Don Lamb") is really half cooked and never feels finished (an extra twenty minutes on this movies runtime would have helped massively) and some characters feel like walk-on's, but the grace notes and little moments throughout are so satisfying for a fan that you forgive it it's mistakes.
It's not what we would have fully hoped and it insnt for newbies but in many ways it's the ending we wanted, an actual send off for our beloved Veronica (Kristen Bell is as great as ever) all your fave characters are here, there's some really sweet resolutions and everything is wrapped up in a surprisingly bittersweet way.
"Thank you".
