Review of Veronica Guerin (2003) by Sean O — 04 Sep 2007
Based on the true story of a journalist intimidated and then murdered by Dublin's drug lords, this and 'The General' should be seen by anyone who has swallowed the image of tourist Ireland, all happy and honest.
Blanchett does a great accent and is photogenic, while the sleazy gangsters' world almost reeks from the screen. Where it falls short is explaining the protagonist's relentless fearlessness despite all the signs pointing her to her end.
Colin Farrell cameo as a football nut.
