Review of Vera Drake (2004) by Jeremy P — 12 Oct 2007
It's probably best not to get too tied up in the politics and controversy, though it is hard to completely tune out such things in this story. I really liked the look of this one, surprisingly dim and dirty.
Imelda Staunton's performance as Vera is not easy to watch, but touching nonetheless. The scene where Vera is first questioned by the police is brilliant, and alone worth seeing.
