Review of Vanishing Point (1971) by Jack Y — 04 Dec 2007
Even though the premise and the ending are well known, this is still a great experience. One of the few films where the hero is on speed and encounters very interesting people on his journey: in this respect, Vanishing Point is more art film with messages and subtexts hidden in what is, outwardly, a long car chase.
Surpasses many 1970s car chase flicks because of its outright simplicity and the romantic idea of the road representing freedom. Ending is still shocking even if it is obvious, and a representation of the invasion of institutions into US life.
Soundtrack of the 440 mesmerizing.
