Review of Vanishing Point (1971) by Richard W — 11 Jun 2009
From the Antonioniesque first ten minutes till the inevitable finale, the film satisfyingly bridges art and drive-in film to make the cineaste and the lowest common demographic equally giddy with joy. The budget failed to secure a memorable soundtrack, and Super Soul now reads as a caricature, but as a marriage of the two quintessential American obsessions, cars and "freedom", you can't do better than this.
