Review of Vampire Circus (1972) by Paul D — 11 Feb 2012
One of Hammers most bizarre films, but very entertaining and unintionally funny.
Basically a badly dressed vampire with extremely dodgy haircut puts a curse on a whole town for killing him. Years later a circus comes to town to exact revenge on the inhabitants, a vampire circus!
Vampire Circus is one of Hammers later classics, it really is a bit of a journey with some dodgy acting and unbelievable dialogue, the guy playing the Doctors son could not act his way out of a paper bag. Hammers standards were starting to slip also by this time, for example there is a scene where a family get attacked by a panther in the woods, the panther is just a stuffed head on a stick attacking a camera it really is bonkers.
With mad Dwarfs and Dodgy Vampires this one is probably a Hammer Classic for the wrong reasons, well worth a giggle.
