Review of Valkyrie (2008) by Philip P — 05 Jan 2012
Put aside all your personal thoughts about Tom Cruise and see this film. No matter the fact these characters arent speaking in German and Cruise's voice is so familiar and American it is a bit distracting the truth is this is a very good movie.
You only wish you didnt know how the film would end, and even though you do you still find yourself rooting for Stauffenberg and his men hoping that somehow they could change the course of history. The supporting cast is impressive and the attention to detail is magnificent.
It is staged so well it comes off completely natural-Singer has yet again proved he can create a feeling of connection for a subject one would never assume they could feel that way about. It is true the first half hour or so drags, but as soon as plans begin to form the action is stepped up as well as the tension.
From that point on it is gripping and heart-wrenching. If only one little thing had changed.
