Review of Valkyrie (2008) by Dave M — 11 Feb 2013
I wasn't sure going into the movie if what I was going to watch was an action movie, a war movie, or a suspense. What I certainly didn't expect was to be effected by it, but really when you go into a film that you know the outcome you only expect to be entertained by the ride.
But then when the film acknowledges one of the darkest periods in the world based off one of the most evil dictators, it's important to not look down on the country that was ruled by him; that not all of Germany agreed with him.
It was an act of defiance that too few people know about, but at the same time it made for an incredible and thrilling suspense film. Bryan Singer is a helluva director. It won't win awards this season, and it's not trying to.
It realizes it's an American film being sold as an action movie but it does its best with its exceptional cast and powerful director.
