Review of Us (2019) by Moviemitch96 — 22 Mar 2019
I honestly wasn't a huge fan of Jordan Peele's previous film 'Get Out' which was also his directorial debut. I appreciated some of the clever ideas and writing that was in it, but ultimately found that it didn't live up to the hype too much for me.
This was also kinda the case for me with this film as well. It follows a family in their summer vacation home who find themselves being terrorized by doppelgangers of themselves. Interesting concept, wasted potential.
It explored these ideas more so rather than fully invested in them, which disappointed me. The character's choices and decisions were also questionable and ridiculous at times, and the ending, while clever, wasn't really much of a payoff and I felt more confused and underwhelmed by it than anything else.
Overall, like I said, interesting ideas, but they didn't come together or work as well as I had hoped.
