Review of Us (2019) by Televisioncr — 22 Mar 2019
Jordan Peele had a very difficult task with his sophomore feature after the smash hit that was "Get Out." While "Us" may not be as concise as its predecessor, it's an absolute masterpiece that couldn't be more different.
The cast is sublime; Lupita Nyong'o leads the pack with a tour-de-force performance that is bound to haunt you for at least a few weeks. The supporting cast is just as phenomenal: Winston Duke gives you most of the comedic relief, while Elisabeth Moss proves that she's one of the best actresses around at the moment.
What she does with such limited screen time is astonishing. The movie is extremely funny, there will be moments where you laugh out loud. The score is superb, the editing is sharp (especially in one pivotal scene), and the cinematography is stunning.
Peele's script and direction avoid the typical horror tropes and give us a story that is truly, well, messed up. The story will be etched into your mind for quite a while, and there is no doubt in my mind that you'll want to see it again.
Have fun when you watch the movie, because it's such an entertaining ride.
