Review of Up the Yangtze (2007) by Madeline T — 21 Jan 2009
A visually astute documentary that weighs the human cost of economic and technological progress in China. Mostly smart in its choices, and the rising of the water and the washing away of the land makes for a great natural metaphor.
It's a teensy bit repetitive, but that's forgivable given its very nice editing and adeptness with human interaction and storytelling through images.
