Review of Up in the Air (2009) by Alec B — 12 Feb 2012
One of the most underrated films I have ever seen and definitely one of the best films from 2009. Not on the level of Precious or the Hurt Locker but definitely holding its own. I always wonder how films based on recent novels would do and this one definitely worked well.
Jason Reitman is on par with his father as a director. The pacing of the film was excellent and many of the decisions he made were very good. George Clooney is still underrated in my opinion but it was Anna Kendrick who stole every scene.
I thought she deserved more acclaim than Vera Farmiga, who also was very good. Kendrick was excellent as the very businesslike young professional who also has some emotional baggage she just cannot hide.
I got to travel across country more than a few times so I can definitely emphasize with Ryan Bingham and his relationship with airports and rental car companies. Excellent film and a great ending.
