Review of Up in the Air (2009) by Anthony B — 16 Jul 2018
Put off seeing this for the longest time because it looked like textbook hipster-indie self-important schmaltz and I didn't feel like being depressed to tears by another pseudo comedy. Fortunately Up In The Air is not awful, just unremarkable, and has enough mildly funny moments or rather lines to help it clip along relatively painlessly.
Unfortunately the film as a whole still goes down like soda at a kid's birthday party. Warm and flat. There are no standouts in this movie and Clooney again just does Clooney, meanwhile Jason Reitman is still coasting on the success of the magnificent Thank You For Smoking and the adorable albeit misguided Juno.
B-.
