Review of Up (2009) by Thomas C — 01 Mar 2015
The Good, The Bad and the Review.
Up is a film which anyone can go and see without being judged. A love story told in less than ten minutes breaks your heart, a little chubby scot boy who both makes you laugh and cross, a ballon carrying house! What more can you want?
The Good:
The first ten minutes of this film will leave you in tears. It tells the love story of how Carl Fredrickson and Ellie meet, fall in love, get married, grow old, but tragically ends with the passing of Ellie, leaving Carl alone as a bitter old man.
Then there's Dug, the talking dog, Most of lines are basically what everyone expects a dog would say if they could talk. The best parts are when Dug, and his other dog comrades, see a squirrel, as they would stop what they were doing, even if it's flying a mini aeroplane (that's right, the dogs fly mini aeroplanes).
Then there's the antagonist, Charles Muntz, the famous explorer and Carl's childhood hero. He is a perfect example and lesson to kids today; your hero may not be what you expect. Although that is sad to believe, Charles Muntz is a perfect nemesis to Carl, as it shows Carl that you should go on your own path and not just follow those you admire.
Now let's talk about how the film looks. It is amazing! It really shows how far and how advance Pixar has become in the animation industry. The look of everything was really good. From the multicoloured balloons flying Carl's house to Paradise Falls to Paradise Falls itself, this film delivers in beautiful visual effects for audiences to enjoy.
The Bad:
This is hard, mainly because you cannot find anything wrong with this film. Only one negative that really comes to my mind is that I would of liked it if we saw more about Russell's past or even his neglecting parents so Carl could confront them.
The Review:
Despite that one or two characters I would have liked to have seen , this film is a masterpiece, all in its characters, story and scenery.
5/5 Stars.
