Review of Untraceable (2008) by Dean D — 23 Sep 2010
Untraceable is a 2008 thriller that deals with serial killer/terrorist using the internet and the views of a website to kill people, this is done in various ways, see the views the site gets brings the victim closer to death, this could be to adding more acid to someone sitting in a tank, or anti-coagulants being injected into someone milligram by milligram, so that leads us to ask how can he guarantee enough people would go onto the website to up the views and kill the person? the answer is frighteningly simple, everything from snuff and rape videos to that fat kid falling off a skateboard or 2 girls 1 cup are uploaded daily, and with our morbid sense of curiosity millions of internet users are not only willing to watch these videos, they actively seek them out, and THAT is what is so chilling and poignant about the movie, through all it's faults (everything from some soft acting parts and convenience of plot) it makes it's point quite well.
.. put something disgusting online, and people WILL watch, the killers motives were no mere afterthought either, it all blends in very well to what he's doing and why he's doing it, if you love horror/slasher films this may not satisfy your blood lust or body count, but if you like slick and smart films, this really is worth a watch.
