Review of Under the Volcano (1984) by Andy K — 05 Oct 2008
John Huston's film set in 1939 features a British consul in Cuernavaca who retires from his post, reunites with his estranged wife and half-brother who have had an affair together, and drinks, carouses the streets, and drinks some more, all during the Mexican "Day of Death.
" Finney is a force in this powerhouse acting showcase of a self-destructive drunk against the backdrop of a world on the brink of war.
