Review of Under the Volcano (1984) by Dan K — 14 Dec 2010
Excellent. Blackly comic, but also a disturbing alcoholic drama. And also a meditation on the nature of men. It's beautifully shot, and Huston manages the material in his own distinctive way. The real star of the show is of course Albert Finney, who staggers drunkenly for 2 hours and makes it all believable.
Jackie Bisset and Anthony Andrews provide fine support. Amazing that Huston could produce such a focused and robust piece of work at that age.
