Review of Under Suspicion (2000) by Movie K — 28 Jun 2011
Quite a nice thriller. The snappy editing intercut scenes is quite fresh idea. Gene Hackman is an attorney living in Puerto Rico with his wife Monica Bellucci. Morgan Freeman is police captain and assisted by detective Thomas Jane.
Morgan call Gene down for interview before the fund raising party. Gene earlier reported he saw a dead girl's body. He was jogging with his neighbour's dog and saw the body. The cops can't find dog prints.
Then he remember that day he isn't jogging with the dog. Gene is changing his testimonial, contradicting things he said earlier. When Morgan's boss ask him to free Gene to let him attend the party, Morgan has no choice but detain him under suspicion.
The 2 girls are raped and killed. Gene still go for the party after pressing from the superior. He went back for interview. Confess to visit whores for months. Gene was worn down and blurted out a name.
Interview monica and she told them she think Gene has an unusual treatment with their niece 2 years ago. Gene pays for Monica college when she is 18 years old and they have sex. After the incident, Monica refuse sex with Gene.
She give permission to let cops search the house. Found photos of the 2 victims. Gene confess to the crime. Then another cop comes in and found the photos of the dead girls with the real murderer just caught.
Gene is release. But is devastated all the dirty linen is out. From what I read by others said, it is explain that Gene get used to jogging with the dog and so forgot that day when he found the body, the dog isn't with him.
He loves photography and explain the photos. He like young girls but doesn't make him a paedophile. He just discover that body coincidental.
