Review of Unbroken: Path to Redemption (2018) by Kate L — 19 Sep 2018
My husband and I love this movie. Beautiful actors & actresses. Beautiful clothes/costumes/scenes. Excellent acting. It shows alot of scenes of Zamberini suffering from PTSD that I hope were just sensationalized for film.
The PTSD drove the war veteran to drink hard liquor & become alcoholic & made flashbacks of his ordeal in military worse. He sought help from Veterans psychiatrist but only treatment available at that time was to give him barbiturates so that he would sleep 20 hours a day.
Zamberini refused that tx & turned to alcohol instead. His mental health started to deteroriate & marriage fail. In the theater, the frequent flashbacks & nightmares were so horrible that it almost seemed like he was suffering from demonic oppression.
It is good thing that he turned to God for help. This movie was made by a Christian group. No vulgarity. It was very moving & inspiring. I would like to see it again. It is good love story too. My husband and I were the only ones in the theater to watch the film that day.
I do hope more people will enjoy this movie in the future. I hope it will help people understand what are veterans are going through & how they suffer from PTSD. I like how Zamberini was able to finally forgive the Japanese prison guards who tortured him.
It's a miracle that he survived all that he experienced.
