Review of Un Chien Andalou (1929) by Chris M — 31 Jan 2008
Do I give it credit for accomplishing what it set out to do? Is that not reason enough to praise it, even if I personally am not interested in the material? Maybe, but when a film this horrifically pretentious and self-indulgent practically becomes the cornerstone of every film theory class I have ever taken, I have to call it for what it is: a crap film that poisons the minds of potentially talented young filmmakers into believing that it is their "responsibility as an artist" to indulge in every retarded impulse they have - even if it means sacrificing narrative, metaphorical or allegorical sense.
Boo.
