Review of Un Chien Andalou (1929) by Garrett M — 10 Apr 2011
I will be honest: despite calling myself a film-lover, hopefully with a degree of accuracy, I don't enjoy the works of Luis Bunel at all. I acknowledge that he is a good film-maker, but I simply cannot derive any pleasure out of viewing his works.
Perhaps it is simply my inability to enjoy the surreal. Regardless, here is my basic opinion of Bunel's Un Chien Andalou: it is like many pieces of art, paintings if you will, all moving and then smashed together into a disturbing visual cacophony of meaning, though there is meant to be none, really.
Although individually each scene is powerful, the movie does very, very little for me. Reall, the only enjoyable parts are the images taken singly and the deservedly famous introductory sequence. Other then that.
..well, it was quite boring.
