Review of Udta Punjab (2016) by Arun G — 18 Aug 2016
Striking performances backed by a compelling screenplay makes 'Udta Punjab' a cracker of a film. This is really the first or second time that I actually felt like lauding the performances of Shahid, Kareena and Alia.
Punjabi actor Diljit Dosanjh brought the much required light-heartedness to the otherwise dark n' grim movie. Direction by Abhishek Chaubey warrants a lot of appreciation. He succeeds to a large extent in extracting knockout performances from the ensemble.
Rajeev Ravi's cinematography definitely adds to the overall authentic feel. This film is a fine example of intelligent fusion of art-house and commercial cinematic elements. Songs by Amit Trivedi are wonderfully rendered and their placement is apt.
