Review of Two Weeks Notice (2002) by Christopher S — 25 Aug 2009
A romantic comedy is always a guilty pleasure for men, a film designed with a female audience in mind can also attract men with an easy on the eyes cast and a simple, humorous plot. Sticking to these principles a film like ?Sleepless in Seattle? or ?You?ve got Mail?, in theory, cannot fail in my star system if they meet all these points. In my rating system, for a film to earn 3 stars out of four it must, a) meet all requirements for that genre b) deliver a significant emotional payoff c) never lose the audience?s attention and d) retain at least some style in the cinematography. After a day of rushing around Camden market in blistering cowboy boots, packed into the tube with a hundred other people and arriving back to my hotel room, jumping in bed, switching on the TV, the last thing I wanted was a hard hitting costume drama, and what I thankfully got was "Two Weeks Notice".
A rom-com starring Hugh Grant and Sandra Bullock that sticks to formula with laughs, plot and character and keeps us happy with two likeable leads, the film amounts to nothing more than a fun, easy and relaxing cure to sore feet.
