Review of Two-Lane Blacktop (1971) by Jake P — 22 May 2012
The stark journey along an American road to nowhere follows 'the driver' (James Taylor) and 'the mechanic' (Dennis Wilson) in their souped-up '55 Chevy until they pick up a lone girl (Laurie Bird) on the highway, and their course changes forever. Jealousies and tensions soon simmer between the road warriors before a middle-aged, alcoholic loner driving a Pontiac GTO (Warren Oates) challenges them to a race for the Pontiac, and the girl.
Also stars David Drake, Harry Dean Stanton, Richard Ruth, Alan Vint and Jacklym Hellman.
Directed by Monte Hellman.
