Review of Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me (1992) by They Call Me Kevox — 17 Jun 2008
In terms of presentation and direction, this is one interesting & very surreal film. I had no idea what was going on but that added to the fun. I enjoyed the scenes of "mind fuck" that the film throws at you. I'd recommend Lynch's other surreal films such as "Mulholland Drive" and "Lost Highway" over this one (see reason below) though. Plus the film does not "stand alone" as it really looks like this film is meant to be seen with the "Twin Peaks" TV series.
There is apparently close to 3 hours of footage that was not included in the film, and as a result the film's story does not feel complete. All of Lynch's other films are solvable surrealistic "puzzles", but I think that this is one film of his that is not solvable since a hefty chunk of footage is missing. Supposedly, a DVD is in the works that will have the film properly edited to include the missing footage and therefore form the "complete" version of the story. However, from what I saw in the film, the film looks like it would be interesting to solve once all the pieces are there.
