Review of Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me (1992) by Quinto W — 11 Feb 2010
The movie sometimes looks, sounds and plays out like Twin Peaks, but it definitely doesn't feel like it. Most of the time it's an SNL parody skit of the brilliant TV show. Just look at this piece of dialogue:
Laura: I'm long gone. Like a turkey in a corn field.
James: Don't say that! Turkeys are one of the stupidest birds.
Laura: Gobble, gobble, gobble.
The worst part is that, when on the television show they would've played that tongue-in-cheek, David Lynch has filled this movie with an abundance of unnecessary seriousnes. Most of the story elements feel sharp around the edges, trying hard to place scenes in events already established (none of which are that surprising since we already knew them, just hadn't seen them. But knew about them). Simply put: Laura Palmer is a fascinating character when she is dead, but very dull when alive.
