I'll admit that I'm not a big fan of the TV series (it's a little too soap opera-esque for me). But damn, this movie is intense. I could easily see a fan of the show hating this movie, because it's drastically different from the show.
It's a hell of a lot darker and more graphic. It's more like Lynch's other movies (ie Mulholland Drive) than it's like the show it's made after. It's great nonetheless though. Sheryl Lee does a fantastic job as Laura Palmer, as does Ray Wise playing Leland Palmer.
This film had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. Being a prequel, I think it's all the more intense and sad knowing how it's going to turn. If you're a fan looking to tie up some loose ends from the show, you're probably not going to be satisfied.
It seems to add in more confusing aspects, than it does in clearing up what was left open-ended from the show. If you haven't seen the show, don't watch the movie, either. There's no character introduction, and it's kind of hard to care about anything that happens (or understand it for that matter) if you don't know anything from the show.
Overall, this film is amazing. Lynch delivers yet again!!
