Review of Turbo Kid (2015) by Peter F — 06 Feb 2016
A high-spirited and just ludicrously enjoyable 80s throwback. Shot on a ridiculously small budget, Turbo Kid gets the most out of its post-apocalyptic world by being intentionally campy, and giving in to genre cliches rather than trying to subvert them.
In fact, there's a rather sweet coming-of-age story here, amidst all the gore effects and cheese-ball factors (this is one of the few times I've been entirely onboard with a film using a hair metal soundtrack), and the film's two leads have resounding chemistry and appeal.
Honestly, there's franchise potential with this lil' indie.
