Review of Troy (2004) by Russell F — 08 Nov 2011
A hugely entertaining film, sprinkled with moments of brilliance. Troy recalls an age when Hollywood not only gambled on but flourished with grandiose epics and casts of thousands, and brings megawatt star power to what is, at root, a brilliantly told story.
Directed by Wolfgang Petersen and starring Brad Pitt and Eric Bana, Troy mixes timeless themes with here-and-now issues to strong, startling effect. It's no Gladiator; however, Troy is a massive, opulent passionate and surprisingly enthralling movie as glorious as the epics it emulates.
