Review of Trouble in Paradise (1932) by Artur C — 13 Oct 2010
A brilliant romantic dramedy about a con-artist couple who delve into the financial (and for the man, romantic) life of a rich widow. Wonderful performances all around, with the romance between Colet and Monescu perfectly done.
I found myself caught up in the ridiculous affair, where the cheater got cheated on by the one who was suppose to be cheated! A real gem of early, pre-code Hollywood cinema. Sidenote: Films before the production code, like this one, make me realize how many good films (or at least scenes) we must have lost until the 60s because of Hollywood's fear of sexuality.
Meanwhile, violence continued to be just fine...I never understand it.
