Review of Tremors II: Aftershocks (1996) by Jason J — 24 Aug 2010
A fairly good sequel. A Mexican oil company hires one of the giant worm exterminators from the first movie to help them destroy more of the pesky critters. However, he discovers that the Graboids have multiplied into a new breed of the species, even more deadly than the underground burrowing kind!
Keeping with the same style as its highly enjoyable original, the first sequel pretty much follows the safe route of the first film's sci-fi b-grade 50s creature formula. A real benefit though was the return of actors Fred Ward and Michael Gross. It might be low-scale in production, but being smartly penned and wholeheartedly performed make up for its little amount of polished action. There's some good humour running throughout and also the neat addition of the Graboids' evolving into something more threatening. Tremors 2 is quirky, funny and feels fresh. If you enjoyed the first movie I would definitely recommend this to you.
