Review of Tremors II: Aftershocks (1996) by Kevin R — 31 Jul 2014
Sure ain't no ostrich.
The individuals in the first Tremors movies have all gone their own direction. Earl still does odd jobs but he has a new angle and new hope for success. One day an oil man approaches him and asks him to help get rid of the underground demons he is rumored to have encountered that now reside in Mexico near one of the oil man's investment properties. Earl reluctantly accepts the offer but the monsters may be more than he anticipates...
"You guys are bait?".
"That's the plan.".
S.S. Wilson, director of Tremors 4, delivers Tremors 2 in his directorial debut. The storyline for this picture is okay and the action scenes remained solid (about the same as the first film). The character development, portrayals, and dialogue were all a huge step down from the first movie. The acting was also a letdown and the cast includes Fred Ward, Chris Gartin, Michael Gross, Helen Shaver, Marcelo Tubert, and Thomas Rosales Jr.
"We need an expert.".
I came across this picture on Netflix and decided to give it a shot. I adored the first film but always remembered the sequels airing on USA as a kid and hating them. The first has some magic and dynamics between characters. This film focuses on the beasts of the series. The first film was great because of the mystery that surrounded the monsters. I can't say I loved the evolution of the monsters this series took. This is a very average addition to the genre.
"I thought things like this only happen in the middle of nowhere...".
Grade: C-.
