Review of Transformers (2007) by Jake H — 16 Nov 2014
If I were to sum up Transformers in one word, it would be "fun".
Now, I understand that no Michael Bay movie is really poetic, or artistically deep on any level apart from the visuals, but in my opinion, no one does good ol' fashion derpy popcorn fun like him. He undeniably has some clunkers, but I think the first Transformers is a shining example of him at his best. It's a very high octane, humour filled, action packed, visually dazzling, and ultimately absurd sic-fi action movie that goes full throttle until the credits start rolling. If you watch this through more, shall we say, sophisticated eyes, then I doubt you'll have fun with this movie. You really just have to say f**k it to logic, grab the popcorn, and just go for the ride. The incredible soundtrack by Steve Jablonsky is also one of the best scores I've heard in recent memory, and it does a lot for the film's personality.
Overall, I'd say Transformers is an absurdly fun film. It may not be deep storytelling, but it is an action fuelled picture that is undeniably epic.
