Review of Transformers (2007) by Tommy H — 31 Mar 2015
I don't care what anyone says, this movie rocks. When I saw it in theater I actually stood up and applauded. Of course I was the only one so it was a little embarrassing, but I don't give a flying fuc.
.. em, flying truck! For all the hate and praise you can give this movie, what really stands out is just how much fun it is. It's big, shiny, sexy and explosive -- and I loved every second of it. Definitely a guilty pleasure.
People hate on Bay, but at least the man is honest about what kind of movies he wants to make. So many directors water their movies down to reach a wider audience, but Bay is well aware of what critics hate him and what critics appreciate his shameless immaturity in a business that often tries too hard to be tough and gritty.
Watching this movie for the first time made me feel like a boy on Christmas morning tearing into my Christmas gifts. Making a mess. Screaming my head off. Explosions and half-naked women all over the place.
Aw, the memories... In many ways Transformers is like the Jaws of this generation. For better or worse, Transformers had a lasting impact on how summer blockbusters are made.
